History

Atlanta, GA
So why create a blog? Well, those close to me know how passionate I am about my food...eating food, to be more precise. 15 years ago I discovered the joy of dining in restaurants which boast a unique ambiance and delicious food. I first started tracking lists of great restaurants when I lived in Columbus, OH in the mid 90's. I was fortunate to dine at Cameron Mitchell's, Fifty-Five, Bravo, Rigsby's, Barcelona, and many more. I read in local newspapers about the best Places to be Seen, to Celebrate, to Impress, etc. and formulated my "to try" list. This hobby continued in Birmingham, AL and again when my travels brought me to Atlanta, GA ten years ago. I started a Supper Club with close friends in 2000, trying a new restaurant every Thursday night. We had one simple rule in the club, “no chain restaurants”! After three years of stomping through Atlanta's best and worst restaurants, we realized that this weekly tradition was becoming too expensive to maintain (go figure!). However, in 2005 I started making notes of my dining experiences for personal reference. To make it easy for my friends to get my recommendations, I thought I would try blogging. So...here goes!

Chops Lobster Bar 11/11/22

We ordered the Tomahawk steak priced at $132. Unlike many others, this was not an aged tomahawk steak but it was seasoned perfectly and earned 5th place on our family's list. Overall this was a fantastic experience! Nearly every dish was excellent and the service was impeccable. Our server Matthew, assisted by Tyler, were absolutely fantastic throughout the evening. We also had their special appetizer tonight - the 5 ounce blue crab claw - which was absolutely superb, served with a sweet mustard remoulade for $39. The escargot with puff pastry for $18 was fantastic, but their wedge salad was average at best. Their specialty hashed potato tots with blue cheese truffle aioli was tasty and then we finished the meal with the white chocolate banana pie.

Luci’s Steakhouse 10/29/22

Luci's ranks #3 on our family's steakhouse list (as of the date of this post), measured by the most memorable and best tasting steak. For consistency, we usually order the Tomahawk if available. The Tomahawk's outer layer was seasoned very well and the meat was tender. With the right combination of the seasoned exterior, meat and marbling this steak took 3rd place in our book. For $200, the overall steak wasn't a standout. It could use a roasted garlic bulb and shallot garnish to distinguish it from others. The sweet chili brussels sprouts were delicious as wellThe sweet chili brussels sprouts were delicious as were the mashed potatoes. The brussels sprouts will probably the best I have ever had. The Tuna tartare for $22 was terrible. There was no flavor, the fried wontons were stale and the cucumber was too vinegary without any hint of sweetness. The lobster bisque was too salty and lacked richness. The french onion soup definitely has promise but there was a touch of vinegar flavor that was misplaced in this dish. The roasted red pepper dip that was served with the bread was a nice change, but it did leave an odd aftertaste. The noise level was just right and we really enjoyed the live pianist and singer. our server, Alfredo, was a true delight and the team Ellie and Charlie also did a nice job.

The District: Seville Steak & Seafood (Pensacola, FL) 12/28/21

As of 11/11/22, this steakhouse comes in at #7 on our family's steakhouse list. We had the porterhouse for $125.
